Relax Cakes

Hi, I’m Lee Watton, owner and cake designer at Relax Cakes.  I qualified as a baker in 1993 where my passion for baking and decorating bespoke and novelty cakes started.  I have to say, I love my job.

In 1999 I opened Relax Coffee Shop and Cakes.  I have been baking cakes and making tasty food in our local area and across Northern Ireland for nearly 20 years.  We have earned the highest food hygiene award of 5 stars every year, since it was introduced in 2012.  We still proudly hold the 5 stars today.

Cake decorating and design is constantly changing and we are continually learning new skills and refining our decorating techniques.  I learn something new everyday, as I keep up to date with changes in the latest trends, styles, designs and attention to detail needed for wedding cakes and cake design.  It is always interesting to see the new trends coming along and seeing how they will translate into new cake designs.  Every day I look forward to seeing where our story takes us next.

All of our cakes start the same way; using the highest quality ingredients, starting with the flour, eggs and sugar. We bake all of our cakes in house using our tried and tested recipes. We believe that all of our cakes should taste as good as they look.

WEDDING CAKE CONSULTATIONS

We offer a free no obligation cake tasting appointment for all of our wedding couples. We will make up some cake samples, flavours of your choice and we can talk about the design for your dream wedding cake. We understand that you are busy, so we have evening appointments available. CAKE FILLINGS & FLAVOURS

All of our cakes are baked fresh in our kitchen, starting with the basics; flour, eggs, butter and sugar.  We have a wide range of delicious cake flavours to tempt you with. We use our tried and tested recipes and only using the finest and freshest ingredients, to ensure that all of our cakes taste as good as they look.

At Relax Cakes we are always experimenting with new flavours and new combinations.  We are up for a challenge – if you want a flavour that we have not listed or made before, let us know and we will make you up a sample to taste.

Because our cakes are made in house from start to finish, we know what ingredients we put into our cakes, so we can cater for any dietary requirements e.g. gluten free cakes.

Below are a selection of some of the flavours we have to order.

Victoria Sponge – vanilla bean sponge layered with fresh raspberry preserve and butter cream.

Heavenly Chocolate – rich chocolate sponge filled with a rich dark chocolate butter cream (why not make it chocolate Baileys or chocolate orange).

Raspberry & White Chocolate – white chocolate sponges layered with fresh raspberry butter cream.

Lemon Drizzle – fresh lemon zest infused sponge, layered with fresh lemon butter cream.

Carrot – beautifully moist and lightly spiced carrot cake, with a fresh lemon and cream cheese butter cream.

Rich Fruit – traditional fruit cake soaked in brandy and matured (available without alcohol).

Guinness – seriously rich chocolate Guinness cake filled with a milk chocolate ganache for that something a little different.

Orange Zest – a light sponge infused with fresh orange zest with an orange butter cream.

Espresso Coffee – espresso flavoured sponge filled with a wonderfully intense flavoured coffee butter cream.

Sticky Banoffee – brown butter sponge infused with banana, then layered together with a caramel butter cream.

Oreo Biscuit– vanilla bean and crushed Oreo sponge filled with a fresh mint chocolate butter cream.

Red Velvet – red velvet sponge flavoured with butter milk, cocoa powder and coloured red then filled with a cream cheese frosting.
